MPlayer Not Loading Subtitles
 

Okay heres my problem, I download a lot of unlicensed movies/anime and such, and all of the anime and some of the movies I download are in foreign languages (duh) and have subtitles (duh^2) anyways, I have come across .ogm files and I know what they are and everything and I am able to select the audio tracks just fine however, mplayer refuses to load the subtitles. I know in Windows, I had to get a subtitle filter (I used VobSub I believe) and then from that in the taskbar you were able to select subtitle streams (Spanish Oh Boy!). Not when I just do mplayer *.ogm, it complains about not being able to find the subtitle file, however, if I load the SAME file using gmplayer, the subtitles show up fine. I can't stand using gmplayer, it seems really clunky on my machine, and I dunno, I guess I have a boner for doing things through CLI *shrugs*. Anyways, so does anyone know how to make mplayer able to find the subtitle streams that gmplayer has no problem doing?

try command line load:

mplayer -sid # /pathtoogm

the -sid # chooses a subtitle based on number 1-infinity, try a few numbers see what they do

you can also try -slang eng (or other language) but many are not labled liek that

not sure how to do from gmplayer

Thanks for the reply. I tried everything you suggested and, unfortunately none of it worked. Also, I wanted to mention that in gmplayer it loads the subtitles fine, I just don't like using gmplayer because its rather clunky on my system and I prefer doing things like this through the commandline anyways. So I'm wondering does anyone happen to know what gmplayer does when it loads a file? This way I can make mplayer do the same thing and then I will be able to see the subtitle.

try man mplayer and read through it, it is very very long but if you skim through it you will figure a lot out about command line options.
