Mp3 Music Player software for Linux ?

Hello,

I am using aMarok music player for playing my mp3 collection. Only one thing I need is ratings feature which I was unable to locate in aMarok.

Can any one suggest good mp3 player which allow ratings of songs (with good interface like aMarok has).

Thanks, Kirtimaan

IIRC, Rythmbox (which is for GNOME) does it, but I'm far from sure. xmms, totem, xine and mpc (AFAIK) does not, so you can save those for last.

However, if all you do is enable random and press play, you can achieve the same effect by putting each song on the playlist n times, where n is your rating. It's a hackish workaround, however.

amarok does actually have a pretty good rating system, although it isnt immedeately evident.

see here for a quick description of how it works, and scroll down to the next question to see how to manually set track ratings: http://amarok.kde.org/amarokwiki/ind..._determined.3F

unfortunately, i'm not at home and cant check how to turn on the track ratings display, but iirc you can right-click the colum headers (name, artist, etc) and choose to display track ratings.

I spent about a year searching for a good mp3 player, and finally found Quod Libet. Hardly anyone seems to have heard of it, as I never found it recommended anywhere. I've been through XMMS, RhythmBox, amarok (nice idea, but the interface is the kludgiest of all) went for a while just using mpg321 and some scripts i wrote, many other that i forget the names of as i only used them for about 20 seconds before dismissing them.

Anyway, it's here http://www.sacredchao.net/quodlibet

Give it a try, hope you like it.

Thanks all!

zidane_tribal, I was using amrok from last 6 months and never figured that! Thanks for telling me that even my current media player have something that I don't know. I have looked the link and found that column score will solve my problem of ratings.

Also, I will give try to 'Quod Libet' as Infinty42 suggested.

Right now giving try to Rythembox. found not good as Amarok however, there are option for Ratings.

Again, Thanks to all!

Kirtimaan

kirtimaan_bkn, tis coolies, it took me months before i realised it was there too ;) personally i love the way it gives the songs i listen to higher ratings than the songs i skip over, and i can build a playlist of high rated songs in a few seconds. :)
