Mp2 to mp3 conversion

Hello,
I am trying to convert some older audio files to today's standard format - mp3. The files are in mp2 currently.

Could you please point me to some conversion program for this purpose?

Thanks,
Skyer

Is there any special reason why you need to convert these files?

Re-encoding something already in a lossy format into a different lossy format will only lead to further sound degradation. Most players that can decode mp3 should also be able to handle mp2, so unless you have something really limited they're unlikely to be a problem as-is.

If you really need mp3 for some reason, then if possible you'd be better off going back to the original, lossless sources and encoding directly from them.

By the way, this is a very commonly asked question, and even a cursory search of the forum or the net should've turned up many solutions. Check out the "Similar Threads" box at the bottom of the page, for example.

Thanks for your replies.

rokytnji: I'll check them.

David the H.:I didn't find anything particular for mp2 formats. (That's why I'm asking). I have to convert these files to mp3, but even if I didn't, I would, because I want to know the solution. I don't have the lossless version, these older files are the only ones I have.

Alright, seems like the ones you've posted are the ones I need so, problem solved.
