mozilla bookmarks not saving correctly.

this is getting really annoying. I saved book marks last night and sure enough when i started my computer today and mozilla they are gone.
This has happened a number of times.

i did back up the file before i shut down and looked at the date stamps. the one from last night (default file) has changed back to an old copy...

Last night the time stamp was the same as the one below it. but today it went back to the 3rd of January.. WHY????

This is the file i copied last night just to be sure i had the book marks backed up.

Why is mozilla reverting back to an older copy of the bookmarks file?

Is your computer keeping the correct time and date? There is a small battery on the motherboard that keeps basic information. Sometimes it can go dead.

I see you are still running firefox 2.x why not upgrade to 3.x ? bookmarks are handled differently in 3.x (sqlite db)

unix1adm 01-22-2009 10:44 AM

uninstalled and reinstalled seems ok now
i was running mozilla 3.0.5 not 2

3.0x does not use the bookmarks.html file at all, so if that is what you were working on to fix your issue, that is why the problem wasn't being resolved.. I thought the link you posted explained that difference..

Copy the bookmarks.htm file to your linux PC
Open it in firefox.
Add the bookmarks you need to your linux firefox.

Or from IE, you can probably "Export bookmarks" and them "Import bookmarks" using firefox.

I like the KISS principle: I have an (old) file called Win98Bookmarks.html that I just reference once in a blue moon: I open the file (actually the file itself is bookmarked in my linux firefox) and choose the link I need.
