Mozilla 1.7 Installation - Partially Successful
 

Through "trial & error" [and a lotta dumb luck] I managed to install a copy of Mozilla 1.7 in the /usr/local/mozilla directory of Red Hat 8.0. [don't ask why there -After all the "error messages" I'm happy it installed "anywhere"]

My "problem" is - an icon was not created on the desktop !!

I have to go into /usr/locall/mozilla and click on a "mozilla icon" [NOT the "red dinosaur" but a "gear"] and a message appears "Want to run in terminal ??"

A "Yes" launches the mozilla browser [I'm using Mozilla 1.7 right now].

How do I put a "real red dinosaur" icon on the desktop ??

I have the same problem, I see in the readme file it tells how to put an icon for GNOME on the desktop but not for KDE? I tried copying the link from the folder to the desktop but it does't work. Anyway to get the icon on the desktop for KDE:study:

In KDE, right click on the desktop. Select Create New>File>Link to Application. Call it Mozilla. Under the "Application" tab, enter "mozilla" as the command and "Mozilla" as the description. Click on "advanced options" and un-select "launch feedback" if it is selected. Under the "general" tab, click on the gear icon to open up a selection of icons. Pick a mozilla icon and click on "OK" You should now have a mozilla icon on your desktop that will open mozilla by clicking on it.

Frankly I don't know if I was in GNOME or KDE, I kinda like both and keep switching back & forth. During initial installation of RH they put "different" icons on each desktop and I like to try the "difference" !!

Meanwhile, Sunday afternoon I will fire up RH [I'm online with Win98SE right now] and try your suggestions. I keep you updated on my success.

m_yates came up with the right direction but wrong version of mozilla, but following your suggestion I played around and was able to get it to work, sure makes it a lot easier than going to the folder and opening it or thru the command line....thanks for you help :cool:
