Moving accounts from a machine to another machine

Hi all,

I am building a new machine to replace the existing old machine which is a mail server.

How can I move all the users accounts and pop3 accounts from the old machine to the new machine.

What files I need to copy from the old machine to the new machine so that after switch over, no files for the users will be lost including such as mails.

You can easily move the accounts. You need to copy the whole /home directory and /etc/passwd, /etc/shadow, /etc/group and /etc/sgroup.

POP3 accounts: it depends on your mail server. You probably need to bakup the whole POP3 server configuration.

Moving accounts from a machine to another machine

Hi Mara,

The old mail server I used is RedHat 7 postfix and the new mail server will be Mandrake 9.1 postfix.

Do I need to copy all the postfix server configuration files to the new machine.

It looks there will be a big difference in versions and config files may not fit. I'd copy them just to have reference when tweaking Mandrake's ones.
