Move one Big file to a new server, Best way?

I want to move a big file (92gb tar) from a server to a new one

What's the best way to do this?
I did try
scp username@<xxx.xxx.xxx.101>:</home/xx...les/ani.tar.gz>
Which I found on the web somewhere but it did not work for me

Thanks

scp will work just fine if you tell it what to do properly.

http://www.basicconfig.com/linux/lin...ommand_example

http://www.computerhope.com/unix/scp.htm

those should get you going down the correct path.

I would use rsync. If the copying process gets interrupted you can run the same command again and it should copy only the parts of the file that didn't get copied already rather than starting all over again as scp will.
On the server where the file currently resides
Code:
$ rsync -av --progress /path/to/filename user@otherserver:/path/to/copy/to/

If the file would compress well it might be worth it to compress before moving.
