Move file command?
I'm still trying to get back my MCC. I've looked at the help but none of the commands I tried worked. MCC is in /home/del/MCC so I thought if I moved it to /usr/bin it would work. I'm getting confused with the option stuff. Can someone tell me how I can do this? I assume I have to do this as root?

mv /home/del/MCC /usr/bin
You have to do this as root. |
I tried that and I got back no such file or directory. Maybe I should just wipe it out and try a reinstall?
Maybe you dont have that file..make sure u use the extension of the file too. Did u do this as root?
just install mc commander that will make you life easier and comes with mandrake
I used the su and then the password . When you say that I may not have the file what exactly does that mean? This all happened very quickly, I clicked on the icon and a box popped up saying " Could not find service
'Configuration/ Mandrake Control Center" so I typed in "locate MCC" and it said /home/del/MCC. On another board I asked how to activate it and all I heard back was that it wasn't supposed to be there, that's not normal and it should be in /usr/bin. It won't let me install from the cd it keeps saying that it couldn't find such and such even though I am looking right at the icon. I'll have a look around to see where to get mc commander besides the ML cd. |
why dont you reinstall your desktop environment i.e KDE or GNOME?
I'll try anything just about now, should I try to install from the KDE site or the RPM.org?
You could install it from anywhere you like..you should have it on your installation cd too. Even better idea is to backup everything and re-install linux (If you have trouble installing desktop env.).
I'd be glad to completely reinstall I've already backed up everything and this Mandrake is the only os on this computor. Can you please give me directions on how to do this?
Boot off the Mandrake CDs, start install program, reformat partitions that Linux is currently installed on (make sure you backed up your data to a different partition or removable media!), then just install like normal
