Mouse starts in drag mode

I know this is a common problem, but mine is slightly different from most.
When I open my home folder the mouse is in drag mode and wants to drag the folder around the screen. If I click once it goes into normal select mode. if I open a sub folder it remains in select mode.
If I open another folder like Network it goes back to drag mode.
It really is a trivial issue which I can live with, but is there a way of forcing it to start in select mode rather than drag?
BTW I am using Linux Mint 20.2 with Cinammon desktop.

I'm sure that's not the intent of the interface. Have you tried a different mouse just to see if it is consistently a problem? I wonder if this is a desktop environment bug. Another option is maybe to try a different DE and see if the problem is still there.
