mouse not working with knoppix

Hey I am running knoppix from a live cd and am using a laser mouse. when linux starts the laser shuts off and i cant move the mouse around. the buttons still work but i can't move it around.

That's ... odd.
Well, the light is supposed to go on when it is modes, not when mouse buttons are pressed. It shouldn't matter what the mouse driver or the OS is doing, this is behavior in the mouse itself. (Anyone know different for modern optical mice, please let me know.)

So - I'd check that this mouse still works properly.

Then I'd check knoppix with another mouse.

I used to have an optical mouse and it worked fine when i ran Slax on it. whenever i got this one it did the same thing on slax that its doing now on knoppix. im not sure if its a product of it being a laser mouse and not an optical or if its just the mouse malfunctioning. its not that great of a mouse and it jumps around a bit when using it on windows. i just dont know why the light wont even come on

I get the same thing on linspire live, except sometimes my buttons won't even work. Optical mosue, works fine on windows or with any other computer.

"it" being the laptop, not the mouse? :)

The laser mouse is broken under slax as well as under knoppix-live. Got it.

The mouse is malfunctioning. The OS dosn't care what sort (roller, optical, laser, magic) of mouse it is. All mice are the same to the OS. I'd suspect the tracking logic on the mouse (but check it with a mouse-pad first - it may just be failing to pick up the surface grain). If it is new, return it for a refund or replacement (complain that it dosn't track properly under windows).

Hello!

Yep, I've got the same problem. While Knoppix is doing a usb scan, the light turns off. Can't understand what is going on.

Later,
Murdock
