Mouse Left Click not being detected in Debian distros passed Debian 6
I have a problem with the left mouse click not working, it is not being detected by “xev”, hover, movement, and scroll is detected . I am not very linux techie, I am more of a linux user. I know very little about command line (just enough to be dangerous).
This problem occurs whether I am in root or as user. I have tried a local Linux User Group and Google to find a fix, patch, or work-around, but only found more people with the same problem with no real mention of a fix. I have tried reading the bug reports, but again no happiness. I was running Debian 6 kernal 2.6.32-5 with no problems, I tried a upgrade to Debian 7.0, about 10 minutes after the upgrade was done this problem occurred, no left mouse click. So I down loaded Debian 8, the same problem occurred while running in the Debian 8 Live disk, and the LinuxMint 17.1 Mate Live. I am fairly certain this is not a hardware problem. It seems that in my situation; this problem deals with any Debian distro ( Debian, Ubuntu, Mint, Puppy) based on the Debian 7.0 kernal.. I have tried installations on 2 different machines and 6 different mice of: Debian 7.0, Debian 8, LinixMint 17.1, Puppy, Ubuntu 11.04 thru 14.04, and Kubuntu 14.04( I know ubuntu with Kde face). System informations: Asus M3A78-CM with legacy on auto AMD Athlon II X4 630 Asus M2NBP-VM CSM with legacy on auto AMD Athlon 64X2 dualcore processor 4000 I have also tried 6 different mice: Wired: Logitech M-BJ58 Logitech M100 Gearhead OM3400U Wireless: Logitech M705 Microsoft Sculpt 1560 Microsoft Mobile mouse 6000 I am not certain but I think the new desktop managers Gnome 3, and Unity are the problem, because the older versions of Debian and Ubuntu work fine. |

also, whatever bug reports you found, you might want to share. |
I have run older versions of Ubuntu 5.10 thru 10.10 on both machines, but encountered the left click mouse problem with Ubuntu 11.04.
So, I deleted Ubuntu and installed Debian 3.1 which worked great, loved it so much I upgraded to 4.0 then 5.0, then 6.0. Debian 6.0 was the last version of Debian that worked right out of the box. When I installed Debian 7 the left mouse click problem happened within 10 minutes, so I deleted Debian 7, and reinstalled Debian 6. When Debian 8 came out I DL'd the disk and tried the live. I got about 10-20 minutes of usage before the left mouse click quit working. Left mouse click not working
Thank you for all the help. The situation is still unresolved.

you have to post the link to the bug report.
apart from that, have you tried installing a recent system, then downgrading the kernel to 2.6.xx? |
