Looks like it is using a generic mouse driver. I am going to re-boot to Linux to verify. I have a Windows / Linux dual boot.

Identifier "Mouse0"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"
Option "Protocol" "PS/2"
Option "Emulate3Buttons" "off"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection

try something else as a driver and see which one works better.

try logging on as root and using # mouseconfig.

some of the problem may be related to tp4utils (the software that configures the psaux port for your laptop touch pad (which should be IRQ12).

see http://www-hft.ee.tu-berlin.de/~strauman/tp4utils/
