Mouse freezing up.

Can anyone tell me what is happening? Twice now, the all of the functions of the mouse stop working. I am using SuSe p.2 Pro and the KDE desktop. The problem
happens when I come back to the computer after a long time. The computer was in suspend mode and when KDE comes back up, the mouse does not respond. The keyboard is still functional but without the mouse, I can do very little. I used the keybord to TAB through open applications and to save and then close them.
I know about the problems about delayed writes to disk
so I waited a while and then pluued the plug to force a reboot. Pulling the plug, of course, was done as a last resort only. I did a disk check just to make certain that there were no problems. I have a few questions...

1. What is causing the mouse problem?
2. How can I fix it?
3. How do I shutdown gracefully if I am in a GUI and
have only the keyboard?

you can shut down gracefully by using the menu key and logging out then reboot by control-alt-del. by simply loggin out and back in would probably solve the mouse problem as far as getting it operational again

Thanks for the info on how to shutdown gracefully. I still do not know what key you are refering to as the "menu" key. The "windows" (sorry for the obsenity) keys do nothing and the other candidate is not linked to the "Start menue". As for <Ctrl=Alt-Del>, It has been so long that IO used that combo that I almost forgot about it.

Rebooting does take care of the mouse problem but does anyone know how to avoid the mouse problems?
