mouse and screen boundries

The other day I dropped my mouse, and I lost the cursor on the screen. So I started moving it around, and couldn't find it. I don't know any keyboard shortcuts yet, and I assumed that the computer had locked up, thats why I couldn't move the mouse. Well, the next day or so, I noticed that I can move the cursor, way off screen, but only to the right. The further I move, the further it moves away. Now, I thought my resolution might have been messed up, but the windows don't maximize further than that, and the taskbar isn't bigger than what i can see. Anyone have any suggestions??

are you sure the mouse isn't borked?

There are several possible factors that may be responsible:

1. You damaged your mouse when you dropped it. Unless your desk is unusually elevated and/or you floor is solid concrete, this probably is not the case.

2. The roller bars need cleaning. If your mouse is a regular one with a ball, turn it over, open the cover, remove the ball, and take a look at the two small plastic rollers. Over time they can accumulate dust/dirt, and if that's true in your case, clean off the debris, reassemble it, and see if that helps.

3. Your system is just hung. Reboot and see if that solves it.

If the mouse has no obvious damage and #2 and #3 have no effect, then maybe it is broken. If you don't have a spare, maybe you could borrow one or buy an inexpensive replacement. Good luck with it -- J.W.

Well, I think its the system. Its and optical mouse, and the way my desk is, it didn't hit anything, just hung off the edge. It's gotta be the system, it won't allow me to go past the screen up, down, or left. But to the right, I can go as far as it want. If I move it 1 foot to the right 3 times, I have to move it to the left 3 times as well to get it back on the screen. Not a huge problem, but definately annoying.

Me too

I've just upgraded from Mandrake 9.2 to 10.0 and ever since I have exactly the same problem. I've tried everyting I can think of. Plus if you drag a window off the right hand side of the screen it reappears on the left minus the pointer - weird. Did you ever find a solution?

No, I pretty much live with it. I just try to pay attention to where the pointer is, It gets annoying when it gets lost.

Fixed

I don't know if this'll help you but this is how I fixed mine:

I'm running Mandrake and when I was using a machine with a built in graphics card and a shop bought PCI one that I added. When I chose a graphics card driver I was given the choice of applying the configuration none, all or either one of the cards, I had always chosen both. When I went back and told it to only use one (when I'd fannied about trying to find out which was which) the problem had sorted itself out.

Hope this helps.
