mounting windows on Ubuntu

Greetings and thank-you for your time in reading this..

I have monted many times drives but 4 some reason i cant seem to do it in Ubuntu. I went into (System)-(administration)-(Disk).. there it shows the windows hard drive.
under porperties tab it shows.
dev/hdb

under partitions tab it shows.
/tmp/disks-conf-hdb1
i can change it but dont think i need 2
then under that option it shows disable/enable it is enabled next to that there is Browse.
when i click browse it says

You do not have the permissions necessary to view the contents of "disks-conf-hdb1".

i went to Ubuntu wiki and did as it say went and put the premount but it did nothing.

what must i do..

thank you all.

I just helped another user with a similar issue. Maybe this will help.

I would say follow fordeck's link and advice in putting the Windows partition in /etc/fstab since you are most likely using NTFS.

I would be careful about following T. Shrinivasan's advice because he is assuming you have your Windows partition formatted using the FAT file system.

The reason you are unable to view your Windows partition is because Ubuntu is mounting it as root due to the NTFS permissions, therefore you would not have access to view it as a plain user. You could, as root using SUDO, view the Windows partition. Best way is to just integrate it into your /etc/fstab and allow users to read off of it. Problem solved.

This one may be worth a look for ntfs
