mounting problem

Hello, this is my first post in this forum

I wonder if you can suggest me with something going on my server.

There was just 2 partitions. / and /boot. So i wanted to create a partition for /home. This is what i've done in steps.

I created a 30 gb file in /dev and format it as ext3. Than mount -o loop, defaults, usrquota /dev/home /home. That was fine, now i get a /home partition but this time, the main / partition seems to be nearly full because of the 30 gb file system. I wonder if The style i am doing this is wrong.

It gives me something like this:

/ 35GB 33 GB Used %98
/home 30GB 7 GB Used %23

I am not sure if I understood your project:

You would like to split your 2 partition system into a 3 partition system, to have /home on an extra partition instead of having it on the root filesystem ?

But then you should consider to resizing the existing filesystem in order to create free space for another partition. If you create a file on the existing partition you gain nothing (just waste space that i assigned for /home in advance).

If your server uses reiserfs, have a look at 'man resize_reiserfs'. I don't know the tool for ext3. I have done the same thing (outsourcing /home) sucessfully this way.
