Unhappy Mounting DVD and cd rom drives

I have just installed a slim distro called basiclinux which is based on slackware. How do i mount my dvd drive and my cd rom drive? They are IDE and get recognised at start up. I have tried mounting all the device types in /dev that look like it could be relevant. These do not work! Any ideas? Also what is the best GUI? Do all GUI's require xfree86? And also on another note are there any gpk (the slackware equivelant of RPM??) for the nvidia drivers. Also do these support GeForce3? I can live with running a crappy res and colour rate but i would prefer not to!

RE: this

Primary IDE controller:
/dev/hda - master
/dev/hdb - slave

Secondary IDE controller:
/dev/hdc - master
/dev/hdd - slave

wherever your drives are you should mount whichever applies.

I haven't installed the latest (greatest?) nVidia driver (I have a Geforce 2 Ti500), but 2D graphics support should be fine using the current or newer driver. Have you run XFree86Setup or any other type of x configuration/setup?

As for needing XFree86 you will need it. Tell me if I'm wrong anyone, but X is really a transparent network protocol that your WM resides upon.
