Mount problem

Hello;
I have a very pathetic problem
I was installing BT3 .... I made a silly mistake.
Then i had to format the whole thing again and now when i insert the BT3 CD.. It does not mount my hard drives.
Normally BT3 live CD mounts drives by itself.
When i manually ask it to get mounted it gives error like this:
"mount: /dev/sda1 already mounted or /mnt/sda1 busy"
I have checked that the device is not mounted anywhere.
Moreover when i try ubuntu live CD..... Everything is normal.
What the issue can be ??

Sounds like the BT3 live cd was doing some persistant storage and the format wiped out a portion of it or wiped the partition table.

Does not seem to be so !
Here is the output of fdisk /dev/sda -l

bt ~ # fdisk /dev/sda -l

OK.

U simply type "mount" command to see what is mounted.

estabroo 08-16-2008 04:08 PM

Okay the BT3 booted up, rm /etc/mtab then touch /etc/mtab and reboot back into BT3

Godwin Austin 08-17-2008 12:13 PM

Here is the output of mount command.
bt ~ # mount
aufs on / type aufs (rw)
proc on /proc type proc (rw)
sysfs on /sys type sysfs (rw)
usbfs on /proc/bus/usb type usbfs (rw)
bt ~ #

I am working on backtack live cd.
Until and unless I am able to mount the drives; I wont be able to install
Backtrack. As BT3 Final has no installer.

So rebooting wont solve the issue.... Thats what I think.
Still I will give it a try.

Thanks for replies.

Probably I will need more of your help in this issue.
