mount network share 'debian <-> debian'

hi all.

(i didn't really know where to post this. it would fit into debian or into networking too. anyway, because it's a very basic thing i decided to post it here, although i'm not really a newbie anymore...)

what i want is to gain access to the harddisk of my desktop computer (more or less relevant specs below, if you need to know more, please feel free to ask). i guess i will be accessing it mostly from my thinkpad, but we have a win2k computer too here (whose hd i mount with smbmount).

everything i find on the net is about mounting windows shares, so i don't even have a clue where to begin. (maybe i'm searching in a wrong way?) i would be very glad if you could at least give me a hint on which i could continue to search on...

pentium III, 128mb ram
debian sarge 2.6.8

thinkpad t43p
debian sarge 2.6.14 (backport kernel)

you need to setup 'nfs' it is the equivalent to 'samba' (well almost) for sharing on linux to linux machines.
It is not restricted to just linux as there are clients and servers for other operating systems also.

Have a read of this
It has not been updated for a while but it will still get you on the right road.
