Mount external usb-ntfs hd on ubuntu

Hi, im new to linux and i want to be as good as i can get so i can get rid of windows.
Among other problems (which i will post later) this is the one that has been annoying me the most.
I have an external hd, usb 2.0 interface, ntfs format and i dont know how to mount it!.
I've tried all tutorials but i keep getting the same error: Cannot Mount volume. Unable to mount the volume 'SimpleDrive'.

I've tried what the "Details" tag says, but wont work.
Can anyone get an accurate tutorial so i can mount my hd? plz!! ITS URGENT!! Thank You in advance,

Nis2k.

PS. I'm using Ubuntu 7.10

NTFS was never good in the past with Linux. Only the very latest Linux kernals have been able to do anything reasonable with NTFS. (Ubuntu 7.10 has one of these late kernals, so that much is OK.) I personally have found no trouble reading and writing to an NTFS HD even though I'm using Ubuntu 6.06.

I suggest that you look in "The Official Ubuntu Book" on pages 146-147 for the instructions to access an NTFS partition. There is also online documentation for mounting NTFS: <https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MountingWindowsPartitions?action=show&redirect=NTFSReadWrite>

The instructions given there are detailed, and dangerous. I believe they should work for a USB NTFS HD as well - but do nothing if you aren't 100% sure that you won't regret losing everything.
