Mount a new HDD(consisting Win98)
 

hi to all LinuxExperts,

This is my first attempt in posting a question. hopw you guys can help me. its regarding mounting a new HDD..

First i install Linux on a 8.4GB HDD and then i took it off to reload the 40GB HDD to install Win98...

So that means there is no relation ship between the 2 HDD. My problem here is that i hope to mount to my Win98 HDD while i am in Linux... How should i go about it?

Easy, if you search forums here.
first you need to know which win HDD is
run fdisk -l
list partitions, locate the one which has FAT32 filesystem on - that's the sucker, note the partition device /dev/hdXN
mount /dev/hdXN -tvfat /mount/point
that's all, everything else I leave it to you as you perform search here.
Note: You cannot mount extended partition, only primary, and logical partiotns are mountable.

First i don't see my 40GB HDD. As far as i understand, the usual case is people plug their harddrive on the PRIMARY and SECONDARY IDE.....

1. I plug my 40 GB HDD on PROMISE IDE 1(raid) and
2. 8.4GB HDD on Primary IDE (normal) ......
0. Does this affect the HDD detection while loading LinuX?

I'd suggest getting new 2.4.19 kernel, compiling it and installing, bacause the RAID controller is too new for 2.4.18 kernel, there is a support for your RAID in 2.4.19 though. If you have no clue on how to compile your new kernel there are plenty of threads here regarding this issue, just click that search button on the right top corner of the website.

where can i get the latest 2.4.19Kernel ?

http://kernel.org just don't fall for a patch go to their FTP server and grab the whole source

Download all the folders? under Linux / Kernel directories???

i had browsed through all over the folders available but just couldn't find that file. Do i have to log in as somebody (currently = anonymous) so that i get the priviledges to get hidden files?? or some sort? i really could not find the wanted file..... Please help. I am curently getting down the patch file (5MB)
