motorolla 56k internal modem configuration problem

I am having trouble configuring my motorolla 56k internal modem for internet connection on R.H 7.1. I have tried using minicom, I have created connection and hangup strings in the form of executable files and I have also configured /etc/host.conf and /etc/resolv.conf but still am unable to dial to my ISP.
Urgent help required.

What youve probably got is a Winmodem, and thats bad, its not a hardware modem.
If its a SM56 go to http://e-www.motorola.com/products/s...re.html#linux, else check the chipset type at http://www.idir.net/~gromitkc/winmodem.html or the specific table at http://www.idir.net/~gromitkc/20010731a.html on links to modules, how-to's an in general if its supported.
