More resolution choices on SuSE 10.0?
I just installed SuSE Linux 10.0 and I'm just wondering why I only get choices of 800x600 and 640x480. Might it have an older driver or what? My computer has Intel Extreme Graphics 2, if that helps any.

Anyone? I admit it, I'm a horrible newbie : (

I'm very newbie too so only a little help. Find information about the xorg.conf or xfree86.conf, these are the configuration files for the Xserver, and there are the resolution modes.

make it so that your monitor is recognized for its resolution. for instance if your using gnome, you can just goto display and change the hardware settings. i assume theres an easy way to do this in kde also.

If your resolutions are so limited, it is because of the monitor selection in most cases. You probably selected a VESA-compatible 800x600 monitor. Either define a higher VESA spec monitor, the specific monitor (if it's in the list) or start reading the docs to learn how to define your own. It's not all that difficult to configure manually once you are a little more familiar with the environment, but for now just select a higher VESA spec and see if you're happy with that for the time being. |
Thanks much everyone. I think KimVette has it right. I know you can change the resolution in the Control Center, but it only gives me two choices and the highest resolution is 800x600 right now, so I think if i change the type of monitor, I'll get more choices.

What you need to run is sax2, not control center.
Go to kmenu button -> System -> Configuration -> Configure X11 System (SaX2) Enjoy! :) |
