Angry More Problems on kernel boot!!

I posted a question a while ago about some problems I was having trying to boot linux (I have the Fedora Core 2 distro).
Sometimes when I try to boot up, it takes me to the grub command prompt instead of to the grub boot up interface.
I tryed to type in
root (hd0)
and what I got was a message saying "Filesystem type unknown, using whole disk"
I also tryed to type the kernel command to start kernel and I got the message "cannot mount selected partition"
Then sometimes when I try to restart to see if grub will just run I get "Error 5" printed on the screen.
I could really use some help, any help that might work would be great.
Thanks
