Moonlight 2, Firefox and Mandriva 2008.1

I want to watch ITV on my Linux desktop machine. ITV needs Silverlight or Moonlight plus Microsoft codecs. The latter will not install using Firefox normally since 'permission is denied'. If I launch Firefox from a root console then I can install the codecs but these are only available as long as I'm root. Running the machine online as root seems to defeat the purpose of 'permission' so how do I get the codecs to install for me as a normal user?

P.S. I use Mandriva 2009 on another machine and it installed the codecs OK while I was a plain user.
