Monitor troubles in Mandrake...
 

I am using a Samsung Syncmaster 955DF and trying to install Mandrake and for some reason I can not make it past the command prompt. I have reconfigured my xf86 a few times now and it is still not working properly. I am pretty new to this entire thing and do not know what I am talking about so bear with me. It says towards the bottom of all of the text after I type startx that no screen is found and I have no idea how to get it to configure right. Help would be much appreciated.

during install did you recieve any errors about xfree? i have a samtron 75e hospital grade monitor, and an old ati rage pro. it's been a while since i installed mandrake, but, w/ this particular monitor, only two things worked to get x going in mandrake 9.1. 1 i installed w/ another monitor and upon reboot mandrake was confused so it went to monitor config.(lucked out that time) 2 at the graphical interface part of the install at the end i chose generic 1024 x 768 monitor(second time around). what video card are you running, it's pretty important to list specs so we can help you. i'm going to look up the monitor specs, meanwhile, post your video card and what monitor specs you know.

Wow, I really thought I posted my video card specs. Well, basically it is an ATI Radeon 9600 SE, AGP 8x Interface, 128 MB DDR SDRAM, 64-bit Data Width, 2048 x 1536 Max Screen Resolution. My monitor's horizontal sync rate is 30 - 85 and my vertical is 50 - 160. The message I get after reconfiguring my XFree86 it says Fatal Server Error. No screens found.

you need to download the ati drivers which should come w/some instructionsyou should find what your looking for here

i don't have that card, mine is an older machine. so i can't walk you through it. there are a ton of threads here though that should offer some good info. here is a link to my search.

Thanks a lot, it seems to be working now. The next main problem is getting my wireless connection to work. I am using a D-Link 120+ and I seem to be having troubles with it. This is the main reason I switched from Redhat 9 to Mandrake in hopes that it would just recognize the connection and I wouldn't have to deal with it again. If you have any suggestions on this matter I would appreciate it greatly. No linux that I have encounted thusfar wants to recognize my connection.

do you know the chipset? is it a usb device?

what exactly n/a means i'm not sure. you can check it out. if i were you i'd post something in hardware or networking separately on this matter. post in one or the other not both lest ye get reprimanded.
