Unhappy monitor resolution trouble

hey all,

I've been trying to set my resolution to 1280x1024 without much luck so far. I've read some threads here about editing XF86Config- and I did appropriately- but X still starts at lower resolution.

Some additional Information:
Distibution: Slackware 9.1
Monitor: NEC MultiSync FE991sb (quite capable of 1280x1024)
Videocard: Radeon 9800 Pro (don't have drivers installed for this)

If this has to do with my videocard I will probably need some help getting that to work but all input is appreciated.

The driver and instructions on how to install it can be found here: ATI Proprietary Linux Driver 3.7.6 Download Page

Let us know if you get it working.

Post the portion of your XF86Config file that looks like this:

Section "Screen"
        Identifier "Screen0"
        Device "Videocard0"
        Monitor "Monitor0"
        DefaultDepth 24
        SubSection "Display"
                Depth 24
                Modes "1280x1024"
Also, if you are interested in getting the ATI drivers working do a search on this site. Their are hundreds of threads about the ATI drivers.
