monitor resolution for X

hi

my freshly installed os (sabayon-gentoo) boots into x but then monitor giving out distorts and flickering/flashing "colors" which is not too good i guess.
i cannot login and cannot switch consoles via alt+fx.
ctrl+alt+del not kill x.
my box use swap for ram and thats maybe reason for installer to get a little bit confused.

question: where to look for files containing the monitor resolution values controlling x? (i have access to box using knoppix)

thx

Maybe try Ctrl+Alt+Fx and then try to run xorgconfig script.

Those settings are in /etc/X11/xorg.conf
