Yup, I put the space in.

I have made some progress with "/sbin/init/ 3" I got a message that kernel md does not support events. Then I typed Xorg -configure and got the message that Xorg can't detect the mouse. I'm surprised that the keyboard works.

That is about the first time that bash would accept any command except for "halt", and the first time that I got near Xorg.

Any suggestions? zoey

But you didn't put the ""? :)

I just used them to separate the command from
the text ...

Nope, I used /sbin/init 3 and then Xorg -configure and those are the magic words alright but even though the mouse is working Fedora can't find it and so the box for the monitor settings remains unreachable for now.

I am up and running with Fedora due to the fact that my computer literate son-in-law showed up to rescue me. He does not plan to move in however, so I am sure that I will be back!

Thanks so much to everyone who helped me. This is a GREAT forum.

Question: What did he do? Maybe you could post as a tutorial on the site for the Hardware Compatibility List.
