Monitor not supported in suse
I went in Yast to see if I could enable 3D which I did which doesn't work.
If I try to lauch tux racer I hear music but the screen goes black. I get a message from the monitor that the hv is too high and not supported. Whenever I choose monitor / graphics card I always get a message that (0) monitor is not configued VSC with numbers I can't remember. The problem is that suse doesn't support my Viewsonic P75f. So I manually choose vesa 1280 x 1204 89hz. I adjust the fh 30 - 97 khz hf 50- 160hz (I got this from the viewsonic site) I used the app called screen resize and rotate to get my screen down to 1024 x 768 which then has the refresh rate at 118. BTW the viewsonic site shows 118 as the max as this res. I remember how hopeless it was getting a non-supported printer to work. Am I going to need to change my monitor ? I did not attempt to install ati driver yet. On the specs at the bottom of the suse box it says support for radeon 9000 / 9500 / 9700. I have ati aiw 9000pro so I figured that I should try it as it is. |
hi
try using the ati drivers from the site if possible. check if your card supports dri(direct rendering similar to directx in windows) regards rahul sundaram |
In case I wasn't clear ... I need some advise on my monitor setup.

Since I don't feel comfortable enough to start installing drivers I guess I'll have to live without 3D for a while. The printing issues I had this week drained me ... |
hi
thats a nice idea. give it more time. get comfortable with what is working first and when you are in a good mood to spoil then try installing the drivers. :-) regards rahul sundaram |
Video card driver
Although the SuSE box says support for Radeon 9000 (or nVidia GeForce, etc) it doesn't have the 3D accelerated driver. It is just a basic Vesa2 driver. To have the 3D accel. driver you must fetch it from the manufacturer's website. Get the latest driver!
As for monitor I have a similar problem, i.e. not supported (not on the lists) but it works. I just need to enter vertical and horizontal refresh rate and screen XY dimensions (I use ruler for this :-) to further optimize it. After that Sax2 is able to reconfigure the resolutions and colors. So I don't have to buy a new monitor ;-) As for printer, well, there is no hope if it not listed in linuxprinting.org :-( |
