hi i tried installing red hat linux 9 (got sick of microsoft) but i get an error: monitor not supported and then monitor blanks out i get the same error with live cds of linux i got an iiyama monitor and geforce fx 5200 whitch he does recognize
help!!!!!!!
If the video card works, then the monitor works. If the monitor cannot be automatically detected, check your monitor manual for it's settings that weren't automatically detected. You will probably have to fill them in manually in the /etc/X11/XF86Config file.
I assume (hope) that you log in in text-mode. I have actually never used graphics mode log-in, so I don't know much about it...
Anyway:
o log in as root
o run redhat-config-xfree86
o In the "advanced" tab. Push the "Configure" button for monitor.
o Enter Horizontal Sync Range and Vertical Refresh Rate for your monitor. Look in your monitor manual or search the 'Net for your monitor model. The rates should be on the form XX-XX Hz for vertical and XX-XX kHz for horizontal rates.
o If you don't find any values for your monitor, try use these (they are for a _very_ old 14" IBM monitor). They will probably work, but may not utilize your monitor's full capacity.
thx for fast reply i tried txt mode it doesnt work neither i get the menu how to boot txt or graphical bud shortly after anaconda installer starts i get the error frequentie out of range H: 0.8 khz V:171.6 hz
how do i get to config menu
sorry i am a newby in linux bud a fast learner
I'm a couple of steps in to the installation of a RedHat system now. Did you type "linux text" at the first prompt? If you did, then the installation should continue in the same text mode as it started (VGA, I believe).
By the way. If you have another monitor around. Try using that for your installation. It's so much nicer to install the system in graphical mode...
thx m8 txt mode works yeah graphics are nice bud it doesnt mater as long as i can install linux im sick of unstable windows i know alot about it bud my brother always mess it up
thx again
