Monitor is not getting signal from computer via dvi-d cable after I boot Linux

I got a used asus desktop computer and monitor and I fully installed Fedora 20 on there. There are 2 vdi-d inputs on the computer. When I first tried to install it I was using a monitor with a dvi-d to HDMI adapter. With this adapter I would only be able see the opening "asus" screen when it started up along with the boot menu and BIOS then it would go blank once the OS would begin.

I found a monitor with a dvi-d input and I used that monitor instead with the proper chord (no adapter to hdmi) and it worked perfectly. I was able to install and run fedora 20 for a couple of days no problem.

Today I installed flash using these instrucions:

https://ask.fedoraproject.org/en/que...ash-on-fedora/

to allow me to watch videos online. the video froze and now when I reboot it does not recognize the monitor I had been using with the correct dvi-d cable. It only recognizes it at when it boots up along with the BIOS and boot menu then it rejects it. It does, however recognizes the other monitor that has the adapter.

I need help on some possible issues that may cause this and how to fix it. I am still able to access fedora 20 but with the older monitor that is not too good

What are the model numbers of the monitor and computer and what graphics card is in the computer?

If the computer and monitor have (S)VGA ports, test with an (S)VGA cable and let us know what happens.

Thanks for the reply.

One thing I also noticed is my internet (ethernet connection) does not connect. I tried reinstalling fedora again only to have the screen still not work(only at the begginning with the acer welcome screen).

There was an error messages I took note of.
there was no "edid" for the monitor.

There is not vga ports, just the dvi.

acer AL1916W A is the monitor model number

antec model SU430 is for the computer

graphics Card info:

VGA compatible controller [0300]: NVIDIA Corporation G84 [GeForce 8600 GTS] [10de:0400] (rev al) (prog-if 00[VGA controller])

I tried installing fedora 23 right after but the problem with the screen still occurs after I choose to run fedora 23 live.
