monitor in power save mode upon booting
hi there,
i am a newbie to linux and am having trouble with my monitor and am wondering if you can help me out.
I am running Suse 9. Everything was running ok until I moved yesterday (i don't think I banged my box in any way, i was very careful)
Now whenever i turn on my computer I don't seem to get any signal for my monitor (the computer seems to be up and running) , it tells me that the 'monitor in power save mode, activate it using PC)
the problem is I don't even see a terminal on my monitor, I have no way of 'activating the monitor using pc'....
What can I do?
Thank you,
Ken

I know this may sound obvious, but did you make sure the cable was plugged in (and tight)?

kef,
I had the same problem: computer was moved from one side of the room to another, and after that the monitor always went from green to orange, and the computer seemed to be running fine. I tried changing monitors, video cards, and it did not work. So I ended up moving my HDD to a different computer...

Have you tried any boot disks? Are you able to see the startup BIOS? Do you get any beeps that you haven't had before? How about moving the mouse? Have you tried to change outlets (maybe the monitor power cord is not properly grounded to the outlet)? I am running out of ideas besides what Ner tried.

rye, in my case BIOS didn't even show up on the screen, the only beep is power-good beep, and the power for the monitor is fine, because as soon as I swiched the sistem units, the same procesor worked fine.
By the way, one of my friends called me last weekend with similar problem... Weird, isn't it?

It could have been static electricity when you grabbed the unit..?

mystery solved
Hey Rye,
thanks you and all others for the help.
I finally found out last night that the true culprit behind my 'monitor in power save mode' mystery was my video card.
It must've come loose when I moved last sunday
all i did was pulling it out and replugged it in and connect all cables as usual and bang!! everything is working fine again.
Mystery solved!!!!!!!
