module problems after kernel install?

Hi,
I am running redhat 9 with the 2.4.20-19.9 kernel. I recently compiled the 2.4.21 kernel and patched with acpi patch. I used my config file from the working kernel and only changed the acpi options. I then compiled everything (dep, clean,modules,modules_install) copied over the bzImage and linked the System.map and mkinitrd. It boots up but fails to load any modules such as keybd, mouse, ipchains, etc. And gives error messages "Failed to load module...." [Failed]
Am i forgetting to copy over a file or what?
Anyone got any ideas here?
Thanks

Unhappy Same problem

Wish I could offer some assistance, but I'm experiencing the same thing. I'm running RH 8.0, and I just built a 2.4.21 kernel with the low-latency and preemptible kernel patches. After some initial problems with my grub configuration, I was able to boot into the new kernel. Unfortunately, all of the modules fail to load. I followed the instructions here:

http://myweb.cableone.net/eviltwin69/Kernel.html

I received no error messages during the process, but the new kernel won't load any modules.

This isn't the end of my problems either - my X configuration is broken when booting my old kernel now. I suspect a connection between these problems, but I'm not sure what it is. Can you still run X under your old kernel?
