module manipulation!? edimax ew-7318usg Mandriva 2009

I have Mandriva linux 2009.My wifi card edimax ew-7318usg is working fine but can't make the card work in monitor mode. I do have rt73-k2wrlz-3.0.0.tar.bz2 but i dont think they want to work on 2.6.27 kernel...

So my questions are:

1) Is the problem kernel version? (found newer versions of rt73** http://homepages.tu-darmstadt.de/~p_larbig/wlan/) - i will try this.. but..

2)well i guess that once i have unpacked the tarball i can install the driver("module" - is it the same?) using, make , make install, modprobe -r oldmodule, modprobe newmodule ?

3) if for some reason i dont like what i have just installed, how can i remove it ? (will modprobe -r oldmodule, "uninstall" driver from kernel??

You should find documentation on this chipset here: http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

Thumbs up :)

Thanks for being firs one to reply, i really need "any direction" help!

I already did downloaded the latest tarball for rt73 (for 2.6.27 kernel) but the problem is, if I remove current module(driver?!) and for any reason something goes wrong, i wont have internet access and it will be really hard for me to get any help at all..

Bottom line, if i mess things up i'll have to reinstall OS (noob's way of fixing things )... and i'm beginning to really like Mandriva linux. This is the first time i install something and all the hardware and software works with no additional effort..

Thanks for the help!!!
