modprobe usbserial vendor=0xdf7 product=0x88 failed error -5
I am trying to use my Motorola V300 GPRS phone as an external modem connect ed to my pc via USB. In order to get my phone device setup correctly I have issued the command: modprobe usbserial vendor=0xdf7 product=0x800 after consulting /proc/bus/devices to establish the vendor and product information mentioned above. I have tried this with Ubuntu Hoary, Suse 9.3 and Mandrake. All distros return the same error code (i.e -5) when I issue the above command. As a result, I am unable to execute further scripts to setup the modem as I need to know which device to point these scripts to. Do I need to upgrade my usbserial module or do something else? I should be seeing a message like "Generic Serial Converter attached to ttyUSB0"...?
