Modifying Menu Structure in Fedora 2

Dear All,

I have been a very happy convert to Linux for some months now. There is one minor niggle however - and it is almost too trivial to bother all you good folks with - and that is whether or not it is possible to change the menu structure (and add new programs) in the way that you can with Windows?

In Win98 you can "drag and drop" program icons to re-arrange the menu structure to suit your needs. So far I have not managed to find out how to do it in Fedora Core2 - I'm sure it must be possible...

Can anyone enlighten me?

Best regards

This is currently not possible. The menu system in Linux is far more complex than you might think, and went through several revisions before a system was agreed on that everybody was happy with (early "vFolder" versions as implemented in RH8/9/FC1 had various problems like breaking windows compatibility).

FC2 mostly (not 100%) implements the new XDG menu system. Currently there are no menu editors available for this version of the spec. To modify the layout you must edit XML files scattered around the system.

I'm still trying to figure this out myself for autopackage .... you can find the spec at, good luck!
