Modifying kernel files, and crafting packets inside kernel

Hi everybody,

I'm working on a modification of a tcp module for a simple test, and I want to know if it is possible to send and receive an ICMP ECHO packet, to see if a destination is reachable or not, from inside the tcp file I'm modifying ??

The only suggestion I can make is to ask on the Linux kernel Mailing list...

This is not something people new to Linux can do as it involves some kernel programming hocus pokus to get done.
