i have mandrake 10, and am trying to configure my modem, it is an external zoom usb v-92 data/fax modem, i think some external modems don't need a driver, what i need to know is, what is the lettering for usb port..../tty/what ever etc......total newbe...so thanks....

oh and one other thing, when i was installing mdk 10 there was a glitch when installing open office, i tryed aborting install, and starting form scratch, twice, must be a scuff on the disk.......so is it possible to uninstall office with out doing any damage, and reinstalling of a linuk magazine disk i have...

Hello Chippie,

External modems maybe not need drivers, but to my experience work much better with the right init string.

With kind regards,

Richard

USB devices always need drivers

external modems that run through a serial I/O port need simply a correct init string

and to uninstall OOo simply got o the Mandrake Control Center -> Software -> Add/Remove -> Remove it
Then *hope* the RPM on the magazine is compatible, because it will take forever to download on your 56K
