Post Modem working but unsure how to 'connect'

I have read through and completed the Speedtouch USB how-to and everything checks out fine (all the tests to make sure modem was working have been successful) but i've no idea how to actually now setup the internet to work...as I go on the browser program and it cannot find the host. The how-to i used ended after the modem was setup, I have only had linux installed 2 days and I ain't got a clue what to do. Thanks, Jon.
