Modem Question
I have a Conexant SoftK56 modem and I cant get it going on my Red Hat 7.1. I added my service provided info which is all dynamic and automatic, and when I'm in the configuration page I try to use that Query modem and it says modem not found. I guess my question is how do I install or check my modem status, and how to get my modem going? Any suggestions on where to start? What do I do, its my first tiem using LInux and I really really want to get to know this OS. Any Help will do Thanks.

Well, given the name, i'd bet big time that soft56 is a winmodem, so it's good old.. http://www.linmodems.org

just wondering...
did you ever stop and wonder how many of our posts are dedicated to giving these worn and wary web travelers directions to www.linmodems.org? the road from here to there is a well beaten path indeed.

If you want to use modems in Linux, I would suggest you get a hardware modem. Most preferably U.S.R. or you can try to get some good external modem, it should work too.
