Modem Problems HELP!!

My External Modem (US Robotics V92) keeps on disconnecting saying that my pppd daemon died unexpectedly

This been happening in 10 min. intervals. Im using Mandrake 9.1

And plus, my computer IS VERY VERY slow since Im on my external modem. Even on Firefox.

Also, sometimes when I want to open a webpage it hangs and hangs and eventually I get a pop-up message saying this below:

Quote:
kppp has detected /home/myusername/.kde/share/apps/kppp/kppp.pid file Another instance of kppp seems to be running under process ID 2509
Whats the problem here?

alrighty first please make sure to specify the subject more compleatly. Some thing like external US robotics modem dies with kppp.
but I need more details. first of all what program are you using to connect? kppp? ifup? others. And if so run it from a terminal and post the output here. Second the problem with kppp is that it may be dieing unexpectitly and leaving it's lock file or in this case a pid file. The pid file contains the number that the OS uses to references the program running. The program ID number.
So run your internet connection program in terminal and post the output here.
include all relevant info no matter how trivial.

Hello Wardialer,

I have had a similar issue, I fixed it with changing the modem init string.

So maybe try to find the right inti string for your modem and try it again.

With kind regards,

Richard

Ok, Im using KPPP to connect or dial in to my ISP using its access#
If I go into the terminal what command should I type? Please explain the outline of instructions on this please.
This seems like a short fix.

Its starting to irritate the hell out of me trying re-connect every 10 minutes

Just a wild guess here.... This has nothing to do with the Keep Alive settings, right???

hi,

maybe you've really got 2 instances of kppp running , interfering with eachother. check the process-table, ?

DARN IT!!! It did it again.

Well, It sent out another message sayin this:

Quote:
KPPP could not prepare a PPP log. It's very likely that pppd was started without the "debug" option. Without this option it's difficult to find out PPP problems, so you should turn on the debug option.

I need to fix this whole matter. Its driving me nuts. I know Im a newbie but please tell me where to go and solve this matter once and for all. Thank you.
