Modem not recognized

Hello,

We use an embedded system with busybox and we are trying to use cell modems with our device. The only one that works is the Huawei E160. All the others (E220, E169, etc.) return "connection failed" in the log.
Has anyone experienced this?

Thanks!

Hi,

Some Huawei modems, such as the E220, first exposes to the kernel usb-storage mode then switches to usb-serial mode, without the kernel being able to follow as well.

But someone ( I jsut remember is German and keen to assist) patched the kernel to enable it to switch mode.
I know it is now included in default installation of RHEL 6.x (and clones) as well in Fedora (I think from 14 and up) as udev rules.

So I guess that you are using an old kernel version.
But you better share with us more details about your environment.

Hi Tshimanga,

Thank you very much for your help!

We are using a Linux 2.4 on an embedded System on a MIPS architecture.

Any more input would be highly appreciated.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Regards,

Georg

Hi,

I am afraid that 2.4 is too old.
Surely you will need to have a look at http://www.draisberghof.de/usb_modeswitch/bb

I had successfully patched my 2.4 kernel back in 2009, but it was a long way to first get registered in the forum, and then get support and have it work.

Now, I do not have this problem as I am all in 2.6 and 3.x kernels.
