modem (not active in ubuntu)
 
Greetings:

When im using my win xp and dial up connection is works well.I can surf and play games.When i switch again to my ubuntu 6, it cant detect my modem,it says not active.Even though my R-11 (phone) is connected properly to the modem.And also when i press the autodetect,the ubuntu says,not active.Why this happens, though it works fine in my xp.thnx

Let us know the type, brand, model number modem you're using and which dialer program. Maybe we can help then.

My modem is softv92 data fax modem. Can u help me guide. im using dial up modem.

From my research, the softv92 data fax modem is a software modem. Linux in general does not work well with software modems. You need to get a hardware modem such as a external serial or PCI USRobotics or 3Com and mount it into your machine. You need to make sure you have a dialer program installed with your UBUNTA such as Kppp or WVdial. More people can help you then.
In my opinion, you're wasting your time with the software modem with Linux.
