Modem Install

Is it possible to use a modem under Knoppix 3.2?

I have the drivers for my modem but when I install them I get error messages (Permission and read write ?)

I have the tar file on my hard drive but I do not know where to put it so that it will unpack correctly

Will I have to do a HDinstall to be able to use the modem?

you have precompiled drivers or the driver source? if the drivers are precompiled do they load properly (without error) into the kernel? What kind of permission problems? writing to /dev/cua0? what if you're root... any permission problems then?

(sorry I know that's a lot of questions)

it looks like you're trying to install the drivers onto
knoppix which is on a cdrom, and you know you can't
write to a cdrom.
you could extract the knoppix cdrom onto your hard
drive, set the modules up, and recreate the knoppix
cdrom.

you really shouldn't be able to install the drivers, but
you should be able to compile them, and load them.
