Talking Mobile Machine

Okay Hi everyone! Well for my birthday I got an IBM Thinkpad 380Z for myself. I know it comes crappy but I have alot of access to parts and plus its fun to customize..anyway back on track ^_^
Okay heres my question. I go to highschool and our school has a network and I always have my laptop with me, and I was wondering what all hardware/programs I would need to access the network(kinda like wardriving without the driving). Here are the specs of my new laptop:

IBM Thinkpad 380Z

Copiers Networks

Pentium 4-M 2.2GHz Processor
512 MB PC266 DDR RAM
40GB Hard Drive
1.44MB Floppy Drive
13.1" Active Matrix Screen
1 USB Port
IR Port
Serial Port
Parallel Port
2 PCMCIA Expansion Slots
Accu-Point Pointing Device
Model Number 2635-HBU
Linux RedHat/Windows 98
Any suggestions are welcome
Thankz in advance
