Running Mandrake 8.0 and I cannot access my cdrom at all. It is a Plexwriter 8/4/32 IDE and i've been trying everything related to fstab, symlinks and scsi emulation. I understand the symlink regarding scd0 as being linked to /mnt/cdrom and it is there. My cdrom is on IDE Master channel two which makes it /dev/hdc. Since I have exhausted all of that, does anyone think it is still simply related to permissions regarding /mnt/cdrom. I'm not sure. Thanks

are you using the 'supermount'?
i had limited success just by 'umount'and then remounting the device.I edited fstab to use dev=/dev/scd0 0 0 instead of dev=/dev/hdc 0 0 . It works good now.(Mandrake 7.2) hopefully this will be of some help. note that this makes use of the burner availlable to root only by X-CD-ROAST ,the X-CD-ROAST website contains information on getting it back to the users. |
Thanks
Thanks for your help. FYI I still cannot read from the Plextor CDRW b/c of i/o error. I can use it in xcdroast but when I go to write the program just completely quits. Is this a bug? A chmod 777 did fix the locked access problem, but that was only on my kenwood cd-rom. Any ideas on being able to read from the cdrw and writing using scsi-emulation
