Missing "Search for Files..." in Gnome "Places" menu

Hi,

I installed gnome-core on a Ubuntu system installed from a Minimal CD. The "Search for Files..." sub menu is missing from Gnome's Place menu.

What package should i install to get up there along with the other menu items?

Here's a screen of what the Places menu looks like at the moment: http://imagebin.org/147731

Thanks

hi,

On my Debian machine I don't have gnome-search-tool installed but i still have the "Search for Files..." in Gnome's "Places" menu.

I am not able to find gnome-search-tool in Ubuntu 10.04's repos either...
http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?ke...ll&section=all

may be it is some other package?

thanks

When I open my search tool it looks like the image that you showed and when I select help on that image it says gnome saerch tool.
Since you only installed gnome-core it may not be available because you have to enable repos and also do an update.

Also if you want Computer, Desktop, Trash & Network icons to show on desktop go to Configuration Editor
apps>>nautilus>>desktop and place a check on appropriate boxes.

i finally figured it out, in Ubuntu(10.04) gnome-search-tool is included in gnome-utils and doesn't show up as an individual package in synaptic. Installing the gnome-utils fixed the issue. Now its brought quite a few things i didn't want with it, but i guess the only other option is to build it from source (or download from another Ubuntu release's repos) so i am going to let it be.

1 Gnome, Many implementations!!!
