Missing gnomeConf.sh gonme-config !!

someone please help me with this problem.I tried to install a software, but
it is asking for

>checking for gnome-config... no
> checking for gnomeConf.sh file in /usr/lib... not found
> configure: error: Could not find the gnomeConf.sh file that is generated
> by gnome-libs install
I'm currently running slack 10.1

I did a bit of searching on this forum and on Google, I found a solution to install libgnome-2.6. Then I gave that a try, I downloaded package from
http://www.slackware.com/pb/download...2.6.1.1-i486-2
Then using pkgtool to install it. But I still have then same error msg.
What did i do wrong ??

Many thanks.

you dont have gnome installed. You dont have to install the whole thing just the packages you program depends on. Gnome is on the second slackware cd. What program are you trying to install. Maybe linuxpackages.net has it try swaret or slapt-get since they will take care of dependencies.

these came from the old gnome-libs-1.x packages. if the program you are trying to install depends on this, it is likely you might need more of the older gnome series libraries ( gtk+-1.x, glib-1.x, gnome-libs-1.x, gdk-pixbuf-1.x, etc...)

go down to section 32.
