missing dosutil

total newbie :D , when I try to create a boot disk for redhat9,
at
E:\ cd \dosutils

I get the error message "invalid directory ***" generic error message.

note that the E is my second hard drive, and didnot burn CDs.

thanks in advance, anyhelp would be greatly apriciated.

Can you see the directory in Windows Explorer?

I seem to remember that there is a Windows version of the raw write utility on the RH9 disk 1. I guess that is the other point: you are looking at Installation Disk 1 of 3 aren't you?
;)

barelurker 02-27-2004 04:34 PM

Actualy I am not looking at a specific ISO image. they are in E:\ , and no main directory.
I am just typing the command at E:\ (cd \dosutils), without brackets

I tried to open them with notepad and now they see like docs in explorer:(:D

So, let me get this straight: E: is your CD rom drive right?
Which CD is in there?

Understand, there are three Installation CDs, one (I think)Documentation CD and three (again I think) Source CDs.

You gotta have the right one in there: Installation Disk 1 of 3

Hope this helps.
:)

first I thank you so much for trying to help me.
actualy it was my mishap. I have not downloaded dosutils. So I did now, and about to make the disk.
my question is
do I have to make three diskets for
shrike 1
shrike 2
shrike 3
(file names are altered)

and E is my hard drive (a partition of the second hard drive- it is partiotioned in to E and F)

barelurker 02-27-2004 06:09 PM

ok, here is the new situation.
I have created sums with the help of MD5. and wrote a image of shrike1.iso to flopy

_______________________________
without creating sums I cant create the image , getting error message "disk write faliure" "image was not successfully written"

am I missing something or.......what?

dford 02-27-2004 07:51 PM

How big are those iso files?

barelurker 02-28-2004 03:08 AM

iso 1 =653Mb
iso 2 =661Mb
iso 3 =496Mb

barelurker 02-28-2004 04:40 AM

created cheksum for the 3 iso. and when I verify cheksums, (found a windows MD5) get the error message

"there was one error while processing do you wish to list errors"

for each created cheksums.

when I click ok it says, "cheksum didnot match"

pls help.

So, you should be able to burn the other two iso's to CD-R and download a new copy of the one that failed. You should be okay then.

barelurker 02-28-2004 10:21 AM

all the three copies were failed.

dford 02-28-2004 11:03 AM

What program are you using to burn the images to CD?

barelurker 02-28-2004 11:05 AM

I saved them on a hard drive.

dford 02-28-2004 11:12 AM

Okay, each of these iso's is too large to go on a floppy. So, right now you have each of these iso saved on your hard disk, in order to use them you have to burn them each to a CD. The only other option is to mount each iso as a disk from the hard disk. I know how to do that on Linux, but not on Windows. If you have the contents of the iso's saved to a directory on your hard drive, you may be able to use that to install Linux from.

barelurker 02-29-2004 07:08 AM

I did not burn CDs, I installed using hard drive. all the problems are solved. Thank you Don, for helping me out.
As I suspected it was a faulty memory stick.
Now things are smooth..:D

See you later with more questions;)
